About Alaska Beauty Peony

What makes Alaska peonies different from peonies grown elsewhere?

Alaska peonies are known for their large blooms, vibrant color, and exceptional quality. Grown in Alaska’s long summer daylight, they bloom later in the season than peonies grown in the lower 48, making them especially sought after for late-summer events.

Do you grow your peonies in Alaska?

Yes. Alaska Beauty Peony focuses on Alaska-grown peonies and Alaska-inspired botanicals, highlighting local agriculture and seasonal beauty.

Availability & Seasonality

When does your season start?

Our short season in Alaska is very dependent on weather and climate. Sometimes the ground is still frozen through June, which delays our season. It's just a part of the joys flower farming right below the arctic circle. Unsurprisingly, the peony harvest follows the same pattern as the salmon run in our Cook Inlet.

More often that not we can expect that fresh cut peonies will begin shipping the from 4th of July through mid-August.

Can I order flowers for a September or October ship date?

We have a very short growing and harvest season in Alaska, so by late August, our peonies are pretty much finished. By September and October we no longer have inventory available.

Are peonies available year-round?

Fresh peonies are seasonal and only available during Alaska’s growing season. Outside of peony season, Alaska Beauty Peony offers peony-inspired products and gifts that can be enjoyed year-round.

Peony Varieties & Selection

Why can't I order specific varieties?

Because of the unpredictability of our peony season in Alaska, we are no longer selling stems based on specific varieties. Instead, please check out our Wholesale Box. If you would like to request a specific variety in the box, please leave us a note in the gift note section at checkout and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

What types of peonies do you grow?

A variety of peony colors and cultivars are grown each season. Specific varieties and colors vary year to year depending on growing conditions.

What are your purest white varieties?

Duchess de Nemours and Marie Lemoine show no red flecks on the petals nor golden stamens.

Bowl of Cream is tremendous white but may have a blush tinge. A cold Spring may result in blush tinge which usually fades to white as the flower opens.

What are the best varieties for blush peonies?

For blush peonies, we have Pecher and Baroness Schroeder.

Bowl of Cream and Amalia Olsen may show more blush after a cold spring.

What is a good variety for cardinal red peony?

Our best cardinal red peony is the Red Charm.

What is a good variety for a watermelon red?

Our best watermelon red peony is the Kansas Red.

After Delivery & Peony Care

Why do peonies arrive closed or tightly budded?

Peonies are harvested and shipped while still in bud to protect the blooms during transit and extend vase life. Budded peonies will continue to open naturally after arrival.

How long do fresh peonies last?

With proper care, fresh peonies can last several days to over a week. Longevity varies depending on bloom stage, temperature, and handling after delivery.

What should I expect after I receive my peonies?

We cut our peonies as close to ship date as possible to give you the freshest stems possible. Keep in mind that peonies take 24–48 hours to open up after they arrive.

We ship each box with a “peony care” instruction card that give you tips and tricks to caring for your new flowers.

Do you sell products beyond fresh flowers?

Yes. Alaska Beauty Peony offers a curated selection of peony-inspired goods, including bath and body products, teas, paper goods, and seasonal gift boxes.

Are your products made in Alaska?

Many products feature Alaska-grown ingredients or are inspired by Alaska botanicals and local makers.

Do you sell roots or plants?

We do not sell roots or plants, only stems.

We love working with florists! We have created the Wholesale Box to accommodate any florist’s needs.

Orders & Planning

How far in advance must I place my order?

Orders must be placed AT LEAST 72 hours in advance of delivery date. We cut the flowers as close to ship date as possible, so this time allows us to make sure you get the freshest stems!

In addition, keep in mind that peonies take 24–48 hours to open up after they arrive, so plan accordingly and order your flower box with ample time for the buds to open. Click here for more information on peony care.

For weekend events, we highly recommend shipping on the Monday prior to the event. The flowers can be conditioned to open slowly in a cooler or rapidly at room temperature in time for an upcoming event. For more information on conditioning your peonies, click here.

How do I change an order I already made?

To make changes to an order, such as changing delivery date or shipping address, please contact us at orders@alaskabeautypeony.com. For faster service, please include:

We aim to respond to customer requests within 24 hours.

Do I have to pay tax?

For flower boxes and individual varieties, tax is included in price. For our Peony-Inspired gifts, taxes are based on Alaska state and the state of your shipping address. If your shipping state, county, or city charges tax for products purchased from a business based in Alaska state, then you will be charged tax based on those rates. Note that some states charge tax on shipping.

Can I cancel my order?

We completely get it, we change our minds too! While we wish could, once an order is placed, we are unable to alter or cancel it at this time. We hope to have a cancellation window one day in the future.

Should the item(s) not work out, make sure to exchange for a preferred style or return for a refund. As a reminder, domestic return shipping is free.

Can I return my order?

We guarantee our Alaska peonies. Should your peonies arrive in a damaged condition, please contact us within 24 hours of receiving your order at orders@alaskabeautypeony.com. For faster service, please include:

We aim to respond to customer requests within 24 hours.

Shipping, Returns & Exchanges

We use all major carriers, and local courier partners. You’ll be asked to select a delivery method during checkout.

What is the shipping policy?

Once your order is placed, you will receive a confirmation email letting you know that our fulfillment team has received your order. Once your order is fulfilled, you will receive an email notification with your tracking information. Shipping fees are non-refundable in the case of returns.

When will my flowers be delivered?

We ship all our flowers UPS Next Day Air to ensure that your flowers are delivered before noon the next day.

When ordering, please choose the SHIP DATE. You should expect to receive your flowers the following day. We ship Monday – Thursday for deliveries Tuesday – Friday.

Do you ship overseas?

Yes, we ship all over the world. Shipping costs will apply, and will be added at checkout.

Have my flowers shipped?

When you place an order, our system will send you an confirmation email. When your flowers are packed and ready for shipping, you will receive another email with tracking info for UPS.

Sometimes this confirmation and tracking emails can land in your SPAM folder. Please check there first.

Where are my flowers?

All our flowers ship UPS Next Day Air. You should receive an email with tracking once the box is packed and ready for shipping.

Sometimes the UPS website encounters glitches, so the tracking updates are delayed.

What do I do if UPS delivered a damaged box?

If your order was damaged in shipping, please contact us immediately at orders@alaskabeautypeony.com. For faster service, please include:

Subject Line: Your order # – Damaged OrderBody: Description of the problem, and pictures of the damaged box and flowers.

Do you ship outside the Continental US?

For shipments to Alaska or Hawaii, please contact us at orders@alaskabeautypeony.com.

At the moment, we are unable to ship internationally outside of US.

How are flowers shipped?

Orders are shipped UPS Next Day Air to physical addresses only.

How are the flowers packaged?

Each 24” stem is hand cut and packed with care. You will receive your stems with the flower unopened.

Orders are individually processed and packed in a sturdy box with soft padding material and gel packs to ensure that your flowers arrive in good condition.

Peony care instructions are included. It takes approximately 1–3 days for the flowers to full open after they arrive.

Absolutely! We offer our Farm Tours annually. Reserve your tickets on our website.

Do you have a retail store in Homer?

We do not have a public storefront in Homer, with regular hours. However, you can find us at the Homer Farmers Market May – September.
